Hello, again
Why this site exists, what's going on it, and the bar I'm holding myself to.
meta
I’ve been writing at work for fifteen years — design docs, postmortems, performance reviews, the occasional all-hands deck — and basically none of it has ever left a private repository. This is me trying to fix that.
What’s going here
Three things, in this order of priority:
- Case studies. Long-form writeups of real systems and decisions, anonymized where they need to be. Not “10 lessons from my career” — actual problems with actual constraints.
- Notes on engineering management. What I’m learning, especially the parts I got wrong. Roughly one a month.
- AI tooling experiments. I think the EM job is changing under us right now. I’d rather be early and wrong than late and correct.
What’s not going here: hot takes on layoffs, generic productivity advice, and anything that reads like a LinkedIn post.
The bar
If a post doesn’t either (a) have a number in it or (b) say something I’d be embarrassed to be wrong about in three years, I’ll rewrite it until it does. That’s the rule.
If you read something here that doesn’t clear that bar, tell me. I’ll fix it.
