What I'm doing now.

Last updated: May 2026. This page replaces the once-a-quarter "what I'm up to" email I'd otherwise owe people.
At work
Leading a team at Oracle on engineering work I can't talk about in public, but the through-line is the same as it's been for a while: keep distributed systems boring, keep the on-call humane, keep shipping. Spending an unusually large fraction of my time right now on AI-assisted code review and what it does to team dynamics. Some of it is in the blog.
Side things
- TryHackMe. Pushing toward Top 1% on my profile. Currently working through the offensive pentesting path.
- Writing. Trying to publish one substantial post a month. So far so good.
- Side projects. A study app for clinical epilepsy training (open source, on GitHub) and a couple of others I'm not ready to talk about yet.
Not at work
- Reading: Working in Public (Eghbal), Resilience Engineering in Practice (Hollnagel et al.), and a steady drip of incident postmortems from companies braver than mine.
- Learning: enough German to be politely ignored in Zürich. Improving slowly.
- Avoiding: opinions about JavaScript frameworks.
Inspired by Derek Sivers' /now movement.
